För en gångs skull kanske det finns en rationell förklaring. Poängen verkar vara att balsalen kommer att öka säkerheten vid stora event invid Vita Huset, och att en allmän uppgradering av Vita Husets säkerhet ingår. Fast man undrar ju om detta är den egentliga orsaken till att balsalen byggs? Nja, det är väl Trumps ego som vanligt.../Tidlösa

Trump has often pointed to the ballroom as a necessary addition that would allow future administrations to hold large state events indoors, rather than continuing to use outdoor tents.
But he has also argued it is vital to national security, referencing multiple security upgrades expected to coincide with the project, including the overhaul of a military bunker buried deep beneath the building.
“I didn’t want to say this, but this is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we’re planning at the White House,” Trump told reporters in the briefing room on Saturday night after a gunman rushed security and opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner.
“It’s drone-proof. It’s bulletproof glass. We need the ballroom. That’s why Secret Service, that’s why the military are demanding it,” the president continued. “They wanted the ballroom for 150 years for lots of different reasons, but today is a little bit different because today we need levels of security that nobody has ever seen before.”

Säkerhetsaspekterna var knappast orsaken till att iden om balsalen uppstod. Men efter den senaste incidenten har det plötsligt börjat anföras som orsak. Det finns med all säkerhet billigare sätt att förstärka säkerheten runt presidenten utanför Vita Huset, än att bygga en balsal i Vita Huset. Det allra säkraste sättet är kanske att ha en president som inte genom sin själva personlighet lockar fram mordimpulser hos de fredligaste av människor.
